4 Tips for Curating a Personal, Meaningful Art Collection

Art makes a space sing by bringing color and drama to a room! Anyone can start a collection, and it all starts by acquiring pieces you love.

Tip #1. Build Your Collection Over Time

Art collections can be built slowly over time and curated on every budget. Most collections we work with have a mix of high and low price points. For commissioned art, we work closely with the artist, providing guidance on color palette by supplying fabric and rug swatches, and advice on sizing.

Tip #2. Choose Art that Speaks to You

Art is all about how a piece speaks to you! It can have sentimental value, and doesn't need to be on trend. We've had clients purchase art on vacation from local street vendors, and that reminds them of their special trip.

Also, there is always the question of what to do with your kids’ art. We suggest simple acrylic frames with magnets - that way you can easily swap out the their art as they make more.

Tip #3. Play with Dimension and Texture

Your art collection doesn't only have to include paintings on a wall! You could add 3-dimensional pieces with texture, such as wall textiles, woven baskets, metal, and dishes. Sculpture is also an interesting way to add dimension and a pop of color to a space, especially in an outdoor setting.

Tip #4. Display Your Art to Stand Out

A gallery wall is a great way to display family photos. To create a gallery wall, we take dimensions of all of your various sizes of frames and draw it out in a CAD elevation. Sometimes there can be dozens of frames in different sizes that all need to fit together, and we can help make that happen in a cohesive way.

Another way to pepper in art is to display pieces on bookshelves. For a more casual look, you can lean it against a wall, and for a more refined look you can use a stand to prop it up.
